When technology goes wrong… UJAM

UJAM is a software program developped by the legendary film composer, score producer Hans Zimmer (Gladiator, The Lion King, Da Vinci Code…) and the super producer Pharrell WIlliams (The Neptunes, N.E.R.D.)
Basically the aim of this program is to allow anyone with ideas in their head (beats, melodies…) to translate them into music with the utmost simplicity.

Sounds great isn’t?
As for myself, I’m a lil bit skeptical about this technology as it might one day reach a point when we don’t even need to learn anything about music to make great music because some techies would create complex algorithms which we’ll “help” us to create a tune based on each others preferences or genres.
By the look of this demo, this program is much for a “have fun” purpose, but what scares me is what coming next to this.
What scares me is the day when lazy songwriters instead of learning how to play or use professional musicians would use some kind of this software to create songs. And those techies would have developed algorithms so effective that the listened won’t even noticed the fakery (which is already the case nowadays with plug-ins like auto-tune to correct bad pitching with singers or beat-detective to correct bad timing with drummers…)
I just feel like the days when great songwriters used to learned their craft for eons is going away. Why do you need to learn this instrument there is an app an algorithm for that, don’t loose your time.
Power to the people, Don’t let the Machine fool you! ;-)
